'Cos I'm lazy, and everyone's doing it ...

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

* Had an article published (on ABC Unleashed)

* Had a short story published (in [Untitled] 3

* Ate venison

* Started and maintained a blog (The Conscience Vote)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

* What are they?

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

* Yes, the lovely [profile] enpassiondark, who honoured me by asking me to be a support person for her in the delivery suite.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

* No.

5. What countries did you visit?

Daylesford. :P

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

* Effective pain management.

* Effective depression management.

* A more consistent work ethic.

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

* August 21, the Federal election. It was the first one I'd ever covered so closely, and watching the hung Parliament develop was amazing.

* The Victorian State election, because it was the first one where I'd actively campaigned for a political party (as in, wheels on the ground).

* The day Connor was born - for what should be obvious reasons.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

* Being emailed by the ABC and having my article published by them.

9. What was your biggest failure?

* Oh God, never ask a depressive that question. We'd be here all day.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

* Yup. Too damn much of it.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

* Hm, good question. The answer would probably be located somewhere in the book section, but don't ask me to choose.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

* Those of my friends who are struggling with bad circumstances, personal demons and just plain crap - and by that I mean actually struggling, not just nailing their hands to their foreheads and crying, 'Oh woe is me'.

* Andrew Wilkie, newly elected Independent MP. It's a rare thing these days to see a man with that kind of integrity actually make it into public office.

* Rob Oakeshott, another Independent. Yes, yes, I know, he gave a 17 minute speech - but the man is thorough, considers all sides of a question and like Wilkie, has integrity.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

* The list is long, but distinguished.

* On the politican side, every major party leader. Yes, that includes Bob Brown - I can't abide smugness or entitlement of any sort.

* On the media side, almost every journalist who reported on the Federal election or pandered to the Cult of Asssange. I'll single out James Massola of The Australian, who thought it might be fun to jump on a non-existent moral high ground to harass a blogger, and Piers Akerman, who is closer to scum than most. Not forgetting, of course, Andrew Bolt, who may be playing up the shock-jock reputation to sell papers, but who panders to racists and homophobes and will one day be responsible for inspiring some truly ugly violence.

14. Where did most of your money go?

* Bills.

* School stuff for the kids.

* Rent.

* Did I mention bills?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

* [profile] enpassiondark's and [profile] whick's handfasting/wedding.

* The Federal election.

* Finding a political party that I felt I could really support, and give time and talent to working to get them elected. (See under: 'disappointments' for my current feelings.)

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

* Forgotten Years by Midnight Oil.

* Or possibly, Won't Be Fooled Again by The Who.

Ah, irony - it's good for your blood.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
ii. thinner or fatter?
iii. richer or poorer?

* Sadder.

* Don't know, don't care.

* Richer as a family, personally much poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

* Writing - well, writing fiction and poetry. I produced an astonishing amount of blog articles.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

* Battling the black dog of depression.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

* Frantically organising lunch, eating, then flopping around for the afternoon before a few quick visits from friends.

21a. What LJ users did you meet for the first time?

* [personal profile] reynardo

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?

* Nope.

23. How many one-night stands?

* You jest.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Somewhere between Doctor Who, Dexter, Leverage and Castle.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

* Hate ... hmmm. No, I don't think I hate anyone new. I certainly despise certain people more than I did (see the aforementioned Messrs Bolt and Assange).

26. What was the best book you read?

* Oh ye gods, there's that bloody question again. I really couldn't choose, there were so many.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

* Possibly Bertie Blackman ... or Florence and the Machine ... no, wait, it'd have to be Pendulum's remix of the ABC news theme.

28. What did you want and get?

* Unexpected new friends (how is your gorgeous man anyway, [profile] riotcub?), books, the ability to translate my love and interest for politics in a way that can engage others.

29. What did you want and not get?

* A day without needing pain meds. Pathetic, but true.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

* Inception. AMAZING movie. Stupendous stuff. Proof that di Caprio can act! (Okay, so he proved that in Shutter Island, but I didn't see that until after Inception.)

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

* Turned 45.

* Didn't do anything much on my birthday, but had a lovely dinner cooked for me by [personal profile] firewuff. Had a great party that weekend though, with lots of friends turning up.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

* Writing some poetry. I only managed one and a half poems.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

* Fashion concept? Moi? It is to laugh.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

* I'm with [personal profile] lokicarbis on this one: Annabel Crabb. An incisive political mind, a sense of the ridiculous, stunning eyes and dimples - what more could you want?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

* Hm, that'd be a toss-up between same-sex marriage and asylum seekers.

37. Who did you miss?

* Mostly [personal profile] scarlettheartt.

* Also my brother, with whom the process of reconnection goes slowly but is wonderful. Stupid tyranny of distance.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

* Nope, not choosing on this one either. Ha, I know - Connor Blyth!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

* My writing work ethic is for shit unless I'm churning out articles on politics. Or Shit Lists.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

* Gender's wrong, but meh, I love this song by Kansas (and no, it's not just cos it's the de facto Supernatural theme song:

Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more.
